STEPHENVILLE, Texas (Tennis) – Madi Gomez notched two wins Saturday morning at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts with a victory in singles No. 6 and doubles No. 3 but Texas A&M University-Kingsville (5-14, 0-2 LSC) fell to Lone Star Conference foe Tarleton State University (13-6, 1-2 LSC), 6-3.
Gomez teamed with
Marija Dimitrovska to upend Ellie Stevens and Taylor Porter in doubles No. 3, 8-1, and
Mariaxi Herrera and
Erika Larrea nearly gave the Javelinas a 2-1 lead before falling in doubles No. 2 9-8 (7-5).
No. 8 Herrera took on No. 10 Elward in the top singles flight and won a nail-bitter, 7-6 (4), 7-5. Gomez earned the victory in singles No. 6, 6-3, 6-1, and
Paula Saenz and Dimitrovska nearly pulled off a comeback for TAMUK before falling in tiebreaking sets. Dimitrovska came close in singles No. 2 over a regionally-ranked opponent in Erika Richarme (No. 13), 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, and Saenz almost took No. 4 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Kingsville will play its third match in four days April 18 when the regular season concludes at No. 20 Midwestern State University.
