2014-15 (Jr.): All-Lone Star Conference singles, doubles and all-academic honoree for the second consecutive season… concluded season ranked No. 9 in Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Central region in singles and No. 6 with Marija Dimitrovska in doubles… graduated in May 2015, earning the College of Business Administration Distinguished Student of the Year award… finished 11-9 in singles in the spring and 15-8 in doubles and went 12-11 in singles overall and 16-9 in doubles… all 11 singles wins in the spring came at No. 1, with five coming versus regionally-ranked opponents and one against a nationally-ranked athlete… 2-4 versus regionally-ranked opponents in doubles No. 1… began season with three consecutive doubles wins… defeated No. 9 (Central region) Alina Gorina of Central Oklahoma, 6-4, 6-3 (Feb. 26)… began a six-match win streak on March 7 with 6-1, 6-0 victory over No. 17 (Central region) Alexsandra Relijic of Southeastern Oklahoma… followed with 6-2, 6-0 win over No. 17 nationally-ranked Georgina Gosen of No. 13 North Central Texas and also upended No. 17 in-region opponent Kate Bugayenko of No. 46 Newman (March 14)… upset No. 11 Gosen and Amy Leiu of NCTC, 8-3 (March 13)… followed with 8-3 win over No. 7 regionally Lorraine Bonimatoku and Thea Minor of New Mexico Military Institute (March 13)… first LSC Player of the Week nod came on March 19 after going 5-2 in singles and 5-2 in doubles No. 1… concluded regular season with 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 16 in-region Erika Richarme of Tarleton State (April 18)… LSC Player of the Week for the second time on April 23 after winning singles No. 1 of TSU and doubles No. 1 with Dimitrovska, 8-5… ended season with back-to-back wins versus regional opponents Tarleton State and No. 35 Cameron… ended 2014-15 with the most doubles wins in the school’s four year history (33) and most in doubles No. 1 (30)… named to Fall and Spring LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
2013-14 (So.): All-Lone Star Conference singles, doubles and all-academic selection… named to Fall and Spring LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll… went 6-9 in the spring with all six wins coming at No. 1 and a 9-7 mark in doubles play… teamed with Marija Dimitrovska to go 8-6 in doubles No. 1… one singles win over nationally-ranked opponent and two doubles wins versus ranked athletes… earned first win of season in three-set thriller over UTPA’s Wanda Bequelin (Feb. 28)… three straight doubles wins in first four matches of spring campaign… five-match win streak spanned March 16-April 12 with wins over No. 36 Cameron’s Angie Torres, 6-1, 6-4 and No. 19 Hailey Shanahan of No. 11 Temple (March 20) in singles and 8-2 win in doubles No. 1 versus No. 13 Shanahan and Michelle Chemaly… named co-LSC Player of the Week on March 19… ended regular season with 9-7 upset win over No. 22 Ivana Zecevic and Luiza Adas of No. 28 Tarleton State (April 19)… ended season ranked No. 13 in ITA South Central region singles and No. 7 in doubles with Dimitrovska.
2012-13 (Fr.): All-Lone Star Conference honorable mention in her collegiate debut season… went 7-8 overall in singles play (5-7 in singles No. 1) and 8-7 in doubles (7-6 in doubles No. 1)… named to LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll… ended regular season with three-set win over No. 14 regionally-ranked Alexandra Khadzhyan of No. 31 St. Edward’s and 8-4 win in doubles No. 1 with Tabata Lua over No. 6 Khadzhyan and Florence Boinon (April 10)… named LSC Player of the Week on April 11… finished in third place in the third annual Doc Skogman Invitational at Texas Lutheran flight ‘A’ singles bracket (Oct. 5-6).
High School: Two-sport athlete at Loys Arraynes in Ibarra, Imbabura, Ecuador… named team’s MVP on the court… graduated in 2012 with a 3.85 GPA… also a member of the track and field team.
Personal: Full name is Maria Ximena Herrera Rea… born April 10… daughter of Esteban Herrera and Ximena Rea… has a younger sister, Camila… wants to get a master’s in finance… chose Texas A&M-Kingsville because she fell in love with the university, people and finance program… admires her parents because they taught her everything and how to carry herself on and off the court… finance major… earned a bachelor’s in finance on May 15, 2015.
