MIDLAND, Texas (Tennis) – No. 43 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (4-7) won its second consecutive match, blanking and upsetting No. 13 North Central Texas College (5-7), 9-0, Saturday morning at the Bush Tennis Center.
Nadia Grlj and
Paula Saenz defeated Kristin Hillstad and Essence Green in the opening doubles match 8-2. The No. 2 doubles match resulted in an 8-5 victory for
Mariaxi Herrera and
Erika Larrea, and
Marija Dimitrovska and
Madi Gomez downed Favi Lopez and Sydney Haerens 8-0 in doubles No. 3.
In the first singles flight, Herrera and No. 23 nationally ranked Amanda A. Gomez battled for three sets before Herrera walked away with the 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-6 win. Dimitrovska took No. 2 singles flight over Mackenzie Griffith, 6-1, 6-1, and Grlj knocked off No. 43 nationally ranked Allie Rike 6-3, 6-2 in flight No. 3. Saenz picks up another singles win in the fourth flight by overcoming Favi Lopez 7-6 (4), 6-3, and both Larrea and Gomez outplayed Hillstad and Green 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively, in the No. 5 and 6 flights.
The Javelinas will travel to the Sunshine State next week for matches against Northeastern State University, State College of Florida, Rollins University, Tampa University and Florida Southern University.
