MATCHES 9-11: No. 43 Tennis Heads to Midland for Three Matches

Javelinas have three matches in two days



MIDLAND, Texas (Tennis) –
 No. 43 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (2-6) has three matches on the docket at the Bush Tennis Center as the Javelinas battle Western New Mexico University (2-6) at 9 a.m. and the University of the Southwest (1-1) at 6 p.m. March 11, followed by a 9 a.m. matchup versus No. 13 North Central Texas College (5-6) March 12.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville is coming off a 5-4 loss to Florida Southern College that featured singles wins by Mariaxi Herrera, Paula Saenz, Erika Larrea and Madi Gomez.
 
Herrera and Dimitrovska are ranked No. 10 and 20 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Region, respectively, and are 6-7 in singles play. Herrera is 6-4 in her last ten matches and has a win against a regionally-ranked opponent. Dimitrovska and Herrera are 7-7 in doubles action and are ranked tenth in the region.
 
Future Lone Star Conference member Western New Mexico holds a 2-6 record this season, returning to the court after a 5-1 win over Holy Names University. Annely Heinze and Claudia Osuna have three wins in singles play. The Lady Mustangs took on New Mexico Military Institute earlier today and results have not been posted. Western New Mexico ranks ninth in the South Central Region.
 
Competing in the Red River Athletic Conference, an NAIA affiliation, Southwest is 1-1 on the young season after defeating Howard Payne University 5-4 March 4.
 
North Central Texas ranks No. 13 in the ITA Junior College national poll and No. 6 in NJCAA Region II. Amanda Alvarez sits in 23rd nationally in singles and Allie Rike is 47th. Kristin Hillestad and Rike are No. 14 in doubles nationally. In Region II, Alvarez is 12th and Rike is 21st in singles and Hillestad and Rike are No. 7 in doubles.
 
Last season, the then unbeaten and 13th-ranked Lions fell to the Javelinas, 6-1, as Herrera and Dimitrovska picked up a victory in doubles No. 1, 8-3 and Tabata Lua and Nadia Grlj took doubles No. 3 , 8-3. In singles play, Herrera downed Georgina Gosen, 6-2, 6-0, in flight No. 1, Grlj came out victorious in No. 2, 6-1, 6-1, Dimitrovksa added a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 3 and Lua picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 6.
