BISHOP, Texas (Tennis) – No. 43 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-4) is looking to continue its momentum after finding out they remain nationally-ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings as the home opener is set for Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. versus Howard Payne University (at the Bishop High School Tennis Courts.

Mariaxi Herrera was named Lone Star Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week honors for the fifth time in her career.

Herrera, who is ranked No. 10 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Region singles, went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action last week. Ranked No. 10 with
Marija Dimitrovska in regional doubles, the duo defeated No. 40 St. Edward's 8-4 in doubles No. 1 Friday and followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Anjali Sampath (No. 9 in region) in singles No. 1. Two days later, she and Dimitrovska earned an 8-6 win in doubles No. 1 and she downed UTPB's top singles player, 6-1, 6-1.

Herrera is 3-2 in the spring in singles play. Dimitrovska,
Erika Larrea and
Madi Gomez have two singles wins apiece and Herrera and Dimitrovska are 3-2 in doubles action.
Howard Payne is 4-2 in the spring but is coming off a 9-0 loss to Schreiner. Erin McClear and Brittony Walker are each 3-3 in singles play and Walker and Breanna Hunt are 4-2 in doubles action.
