LAWTON, Okla. (Baseball) – There will be no days off for the Javelinas as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-6, 3-1 LSC) leaves the Lone Star State to resume conference play at Cameron University (6-9, 0-4 LSC) on Saturday, March 7 at McCord Field. Following the four game series versus the Aggies, the Hogs return to Nolan Ryan Field for a midweek tilt against St. Mary's University (12-4) on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m.
First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, a doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the series concludes on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for all five games.
The Javelinas are coming off a 7-6 loss to the University of Houston-Victoria in 12 innings on Wednesday, but TAMUK took three out of four in its Lone Star Conference series opener against then ranked West Texas A&M University. On the other end, Cameron was swept by nationally-ranked Angelo State University last week in San Angelo.
In last week's four-game series versus WT,
Ryan Benitez,
Hayden James and
Matt Terrones posted wins in 5.0-plus innings of work. James punched out a career-high 11 and Terrones allowed just four hits and struck out eight in 6.0 innings.
Dustin Luna,
Weston Silverberg and
Trey Taylor boast a 0.84, 1.69 and 1.89 ERA, respectively, to form one of the conference's deepest stopgaps to closer
Ryan Scott, who enters the weekend with five saves in 2015 and 19 career stoppers – just six shy of tying the all-time school mark.
A big start to the season has cooled off with the weather playing a big part in TAMUK's offense, but
Hayden Vesely is getting on base 50 percent of the time and leads the club with a .371 batting average.
Zach Smith,
Cline Andrews,
Clint Wallace and
Brayton Carlson are all over the .300-batting average plateau. Vesely is currently riding a six-game hit streak and has reached base safely in 10 straight with Andrews reaching base in 12 consecutive games.
Under skipper
Jason Gonzales, the Javelinas are 15-12 versus Cameron, but have won nine straight dating back to the 2013 season. The Hogs have dominated the all-time series, 43-16, but against St. Mary's, the Javelinas are 24-47-1 all-time. Rattler head coach Charlie Migl is 1,062-475-1 in 28-plus seasons at StMU.
