Javelina Baseball Climbs To 4th In Region, To Host TAMIU

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Fresh off a 3-1 week over nationally-ranked opponents, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball  climbed to fourth in the NCBWA South Central Region poll as the Javelinas prepare for a Tuesday game at 6 p.m. with Texas A&M international.

All tickets for the contest will be $1 as part of the Javelinas Dollar Day promotion sponsored by flower girls. The game is being sponsored by Kleberg Bank.

The game will be streamed at tamuk.tv with live stats at http://www.sidearmstats.com/tamuk/baseball/.

The Javelinas, who handed St. Mary's a 10-4 loss last Tuesday, went 2-1 with Lone Star Conference leader West Texas A&M this past weekend to move within a game of first place of the Buffs. Kingsville now sits at 23-13 overall and 15-8 in the conference. The 3-1 pulled them into a tie for fourth in the region with St. Edward's after being sixth last week.

The meeting will be the second of the season for the Javelinas against the Dustdevils. Kingsville won 3-1 two weeks ago in Laredo. Ryan Benitez (1-1), who likely start Tuesday, earned his first career win by tossing 6-2/3 innings. He allowed one unearned run on four hits, while striking out eight and walking one. Carl Huizar, Tres Tyler and Ryan Scott combined to toss the final 2-1/3 innings. Scott earned his fourth save of the season.

Offensively, Derrick Walls was 3-of-5 in the game with a run scored and an RBI. Miles Holcomb and James Black each added RBIs.
The Hoggies enter the game with a .287 team average led by Ryan Guedry with a .351 mark. Derrick Walls is second with a .336 average and team-best 25 runs scored. Clint Wallace leads the Javelinas with 22 RBI.

The Kingsville pitching staff has a 2.92 ERA with Denver Diefenbach recording a team-best 7-1 mark. Matt Rhodes has five wins and Dallas Ponder four.

Alex McKeon leads International with a .357 average, while Jake Cardoza is second with a .340 mark. Connor Blevin leads the team with 22 RBI and is tied for the lead with two home runs with Gordie Taggart. The Dustdevils have a 4.83 team ERA with Baylr Bickerton posting a team-best three wins.
