Javelinas Sweep Former LSC Rival

Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team made short work of former Lone Star Conference rival and provisional NCAA Division I opponent Incarnate Word Tuesday night winning in straight sets 25-21, 25-19, and 25-17.
The win was the second by the Javelinas over a top division team in the past two seasons. They won 3-2 at UTPA last season.
The Javelina hit at a .338 clip as they improved their record to 8-8 overall. Dedra Brown led the Javelinas with 10 kills, while Kayla McGlathery and Kelsey Washington each had eight kills. Sarah Fountain had 26 assists to lead the Javelinas, while Giselle Carreon had eight assists and match-high three aces. Brittany Gutierrez and Carreon each had a match-best 10 digs
Incarnate Word, which is transitioning to Division I and is a member of the Southland Conference, dropped to 5-7. Shaina Garza and Angelique Vidaurri each had 10 kills for the Cardinals.
In the opening set, Kingsville jumped out to a 7-1 lead following a pair of kills by Kalani Giddens and later led 11-3 on an attack error by the Cardinals. UIW pulled to within two points at 19-17 after an attach error by McGlathery. The hosts would get no closer as Shae Smith had a block solo off the bench and McGlathery's kill made it 21-17.
In sets two and three, Kingsville would trail early by one point but used runs in both to take control.
The Javelinas return to Lone Star Conference action this weekend with matches at Texas Woman's on Friday and Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday.
