KINGSVILLE, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (12-7, 2-2 LSC) kicks off the final week of the regular season with a bout against #12 St. Mary's University (14-2, 3-0 Heartland Conference) followed by a Lone Star Conference dual match against Tarleton State University (9-8, 2-2 LSC) on the new Javelina Tennis Courts.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will take on the nationally ranked Rattlers on Tuesday, April 11 and then the TexAnns on Senior Day, which will be on Friday, April 14.
The Javelinas are 6-2 in their last eight matches and have a 5-2 record at home this season. Erika Larrea leads the way in singles play with her nine-match winning streak, a team-best 11-2 record and is one half of the Ecuadorian tag team with Vivian Ortiz, who is 7-3 in their last ten matches including a 10-3 record in doubles flight No. 3. Victoria Romanovskaia (20th in the South Central Region) has the next best active winning streak at two in singles competition and is 11-8 this spring.
The Rattlers enter the week winners of their last five matches and rank first in the South Central Region where they boast a perfect 4-0 record in in-region matches. StMU have a pair of athletes with a national rank as well as one doubles team. Camilla Clausse-Pujo ranks No. 27 in the nation and No. 1 in the region. She is on a six-match winning streak and is 3-0 versus regional ranked opponents and 2-0 versus national ranked opponents. No. 49 Kaylin Kruseman (No. 3 in South Central Region) is currently on a five-match winning streak and is 12-3 this season including 7-2 in her last nine matches played. Kruseman when partnered with Tyra Timm (No. 13 in South Central Region in singles play) ranks sixth in Division II women's tennis and first in the region. They are 14-2 this spring, 8-2 in their last ten matches and are riding a three-game winning streak.
The TexAnns sit sixth in the South Central Region, are 2-2 in LSC play and although on a two-match winning streak, they are 2-5 on the road this season. In singles, Erika Johnston (5-9) is ranked 11th in the South Central Region, but Alicia Barbaroux has the hot racquet with her 11-3 record and five-match win streak. TSU will square off against St. Edward's before their match with the Javelinas.Â
