EDMOND, Okla. (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (10-6, 1-1 LSC) found themselves back in the winning column with a 7-2 win over Southern Nazarene University (2-8, 1-3 GAC) at the Kickingbird Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Julia Rauer and Stephanie Baerman started the dual match with a shutout win in doubles flight No. 3 over Trista LeGrande and Taylor Sullivan. Tabata Lua and Lisa Carvajal fell 8-3 in the first flight but the clutch duo in Erika Larrea and Viviana Ortiz held off Noelia Gomez and Judit Mas in flight No. 2, 8-6 for a 2-1 lead entering singles play.
The Javelinas ran through the competition in singles, starting with straight set victories for Bareman, Larrea and Ortiz in flights six, five and four, respectively, to secure the win. Valerie Ruiz fell to Anna Garcia in the second singles bout (2-6, 0-6) but Victoria Romanovskaia (6-3, 6-4) and Rauer (6-1, 3-6, 11-9) took the final two matches over Gomez and Dragana Samardzic in the first and third flights. Â
Texas A&M-Kingsville will have its last match in Oklahoma tomorrow on a neutral court against Arkansas Fort Smith at 2 p.m. Â
