Javelinas Deliver Perfect Saturday, Sweeping Home Doubleheader

Kingsville, TX – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team turned in one of its best days of the season Saturday, sweeping a home doubleheader at the Javelina Tennis Courts with wins over Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State to improve to 6-9 on the season and 2-4 in Lone Star Conference play.

Match 1: TAMUK 5, Western New Mexico 2

The Javelinas came out of the gate strong in the morning match, taking the doubles point with dominant performances on two of three courts. Maya Donkor and Guadalupe Tocci set the tone immediately, blanking their opponents 6-0 at the No. 1 position. Andrea Landaeta and Annika Andersson Gomez followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point and send Kingsville into singles with early momentum.

In singles, the Javelinas continued to roll across the lineup. Donkor, Tocci, Landaeta and Andersson Gomez each picked up convincing straight-set victories at their respective positions, with Andersson Gomez delivering another dominant performance in a 6-0, 6-2 win to continue her outstanding senior season. The Javelinas took four of six singles matches to close out the 5-2 victory.

Match 2: TAMUK 7, Sul Ross State 0

The Javelinas saved their best tennis for last, delivering a complete and dominant performance in the afternoon match to shut out Sul Ross State 7-0. Kingsville swept all three doubles courts by a combined score of 18-0, setting a commanding tone before singles even began. The dominance carried into singles as all six Javelinas who took the court won in straight sets, with every match ending 6-0, 6-0 to complete the perfect afternoon.

The Javelinas improve to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in LSC play and will look to build on Saturday's momentum as conference play continues.
