KINGSVILLE, Texas (Tennis) – Clinching the second best season in program history, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (8-5) continued to roll past opponents at home, improving to 4-2 on the new Javelina Tennis Courts with an 8-1 victory over No. 16 Laredo Community College (0-5) Wednesday afternoon.
The eight wins are five shy of the 2014-15 season, the first under head coach Autumn Williams. The highlight came in singles No. 2 as Valerie Ruiz downed No. 36 Sheerly Bueno, 6-3, 7-5.
The Javelinas went into singles action with a 3-0 lead following Ruiz/Victoria Romanovskaia's 8-0 win in No. 1, Tabata Lua/Lisa Carvajal's No. 2 victory 8-3 and Julia Rauer/Stephanie Baerman's win in No. 3, 8-0.
Lua began piling the W's with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in singles No. 4, followed by the same score for Nadia Grlj in No. 5 to clinch the match for TAMUK. For good measure, Martina Urrutia defeated Jessica Penaloza in No. 6, 6-0, 6-1. Viviana Ortiz took No. 3 over Eileen Gallegos, 6-0, 6-1.
