However, the Crimson Hawks went into singles play with a 2-1 advantage after No. 15 Luise von Agris and Jarka Petercakova edged Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia in the first flight, 8-5.
The Javelinas nearly swept the singles matches to get the come-from-behind win.The Hogs took the first three matches, starting with Julia Rauer 6-3, 6-3 win over Wood in flight four and Larrea trampling Butland 6-1, 6-4 in No. 6 for the match lead. IUP got its final win of the day from Minchenkova who defeated Ortiz in straight sets (6-3, 7-5; flight five), but a gritty three-set comeback effort by Ruiz over Gonzalez in the top flight (5-7, 6-2, 6-4) sealed the win for the Hogs. Although it had no bearing on the overall match result, Romanovskaia added insurance for TAMUK and captured her third win of the season over a nationally ranked opponent with a 7-5, 7-6 defeat verses No. 50 von Agris in flight No.2.
The Blue and Gold will resume play tomorrow at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center with a dual match against Palm Beach Atlantic at 3 p.m. in West Palm Beach.
