Tyler, TX - The Texas A&M University-Kingsville women's tennis team had an impressive first day at the ITA Regional Small College Championship. Seven Javelinas competed in singles play with five successfully advancing past the round of 64 and three earning spots in today's round of 16.
In doubles action, several tandems earned victories throughout the day while being tested against quality opponents. One duo advanced to the quarterfinals in the main draw, while another pair earned a spot in the consolation quarterfinals.

Singles:
Women's Open Singles Main Draw Round of 64
Freshman Lilly-Isabelle Muraske, the tournament's 14th seed, cruised past Bella Hernandez (CSU Pueblo) 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Hannah Nagpall forced a decisive third set against Maria Garcia Morales (Midwestern State) but came up short in the super tiebreaker, losing 6-2, 5-7, [10-4].
Graduate student Maya Donkor lived up to her 15th seed, defeating Sierra Rodgers (Midwestern State) 6-4, 6-1.
Freshman Emma Halvarsson pushed Claudia Di Leonardo (Tyler) in the first set but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-2.
Sixth-seeded senior Guadalupe Tocci dominated her opening round match, defeating Mary June Quinn (Angelo State) 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Annika Andersson Gomez advanced with a gutsy win over Sofia Valero (Lubbock Christian) 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), [10-8].
Sophomore Andrea Landaeta pulled off a stunning comeback against second-seeded Selina Wu (St. Mary's), winning 3-6, 7-5, [10-4].

Muraske was pushed by Presley Churchman (UT Dallas) but displayed remarkable poise for a freshman, winning 7-5, 6-3.
Donker put up a strong fight but fell to Oshini Herath (Lubbock Christian) 6-3, 6-2.
Tocci was in complete control, cruising past Kendall Curley (UT Dallas) 6-2, 6-0.
Gomez rallied in the second set but couldn't force a tiebreaker, falling to fourth-seeded Natalia Gorzny (UT Tyler) 6-1, 7-5.
Landaeta pulled out another thrilling victory, outlasting Alexia Garcia (Campbell University) 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, [10-8].
Women's Open Singles Consolation Draw Round of 32
Nagpall bounced back in impressive fashion, defeating Margot Aebischer (CSU Pueblo) 6-1, 6-3.
Halvarsson stayed composed after dropping the second set, securing the win 6-4, 1-6, [10-4].
Women's Open Singles Main Draw Round Robin
Senior Yasmin El Fadili battled back in the second set but ultimately fell to Yelena Travica (CSU Pueblo) 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
El Fadili fought hard but fell to Alexa Irazabal (Lubbock Christian) 6-4, 6-2.
