SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-2) won its second consecutive match Saturday with a 5-4 victory over Trinity University (3-3).
Down 2-1 after doubles, the Javelinas rallied back with singles victories in flights 2-5 to clinch the victory over the Tigers. Erika Larrea and Viviana Ortiz teamed in doubles No. 3 to take down Caroline Kutach and Cheyenne Duncan, 8-6. The win was the second in as many matches for the duo.
In singles No. 2, Victoria Romanovskaia squeaked past Kutach in a tiebreaker and Valerie Ruiz improved to 4-1 in the spring with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in flight No. 3. Stephanie Baerman picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 4 and Julia Rauer won her second consecutive singles match in No. 5, 6-2, 6-0.
The Javelinas return to Kingsville to host UTRGV tomorrow at 1 p.m. on the new tennis courts on campus. Admission is free.
