NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (Tennis) – No. 42 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-4) dominated its way to its first victory of the spring, a 5-2 win over South Central Regional and future Lone Star Conference member UTPB (0-8) Sunday afternoon at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch.

The match, which began two hours late due to weather, is the final nonconference match between the Javelinas and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin before the Falcons join the LSC July 1, 2016.

Mariaxi Herrera,
Marija Dimitrovska and
Erika Larrea all concluded Sunday with victories in singles and doubles as Herrera picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win in flight No. 1 over Lisa Roslanova, Dimitrovska earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in singles No. 2 and Larrea posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in singles No. 4.

The Javelinas entered singles play with a 2-1 lead after No. 10 (regionally) Herrera and Dimitrovska defeated Roslanova and Maria Orona, 8-6, and Larrea teamed with
Paula Saenz to an 8-4 victory in doubles No. 3.

Herrera is now 3-2 in singles No. 1 this season and she and Dimitrovska are 3-2 in doubles action. The Javelinas battle the University of Central Oklahoma Friday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. before their home opener Feb. 27 versus Howard Payne University.
