SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Tennis) – An all-Javelina consolation doubles championship contest occurred on Sunday morning in San Antonio as
Mariaxi Herrera and
Marija Dimitrovska took on Texas A&M University-Kingsville teammates
Erika Larrea and
Paula Saenz in the ITA South Central Regionals. Herrera and Dimitrovska won the close matchup, 7-6 (6-0), 4-6, 10-5, to finish the regionals third while Larrea and Saenz placed fourth.
To get to the consolation championship game, Herrera and Dimitrovska defeated Fernandez de Camilo and Ana Banic of Dallas Baptist, 8-6, and Saenz and Larrea downed Paola Carpio and Vanessa Camara of St. Edward's, 8-3.
In the second round of the consolation draw, Saenz and Larrea upended DBU's Bianca Tijerina and Cassidy Paul, 9-7, and Herrera and Dimitrovska defeated Amanda Richter and Elizabeth Slaughter of Dallas Baptist, 8-0.
Overall, Herrera and Dimitrovska went 3-1 in doubles play and Larrea and Saenz earned three wins as well.
In singles action, Saenz advanced to the consolation quarterfinals and finished 2-2. Dimitrovska, Larrea and Herrera picked up one win apiece.
The Javelinas will return to action in the spring looking to build on their best season as a program in 2014-15.
