History Continues, @JavelinaTennis Upsets Aggies for First LSC Win in Four Seasons

Javelinas defeated No. 35 Cameron, 5-4, Friday

LAWTON, Okla. (Tennis) –
An in-region and conference upset occurred Friday when Texas A&M University-Kingsville (11-10, 1-1 LSC) snapped No. 35 Cameron University's (10-5, 0-1 LSC) four-match win streak downing the Aggies, 5-4, at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex. Tabata Lua came out victorious in singles No. 4 and doubles No. 2 with Nadia Grlj.

The win was Kingsville's first Lone Star Conference victory since being reinstated in 2011-12.

The Javelinas ended doubles action with a 2-1 lead after Mariaxi Herrera and Marija Dimitrovska took No. 1, 8-3, and Lua and Grlj earned an 8-6 win in No. 2.

The regionally-ranked Aggie singles players were able to take singles No. 1-3, but Lua and Erika Larrea earned wins in singles No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, to tie the match at 4. Paula Saenz picked up the tie-breaking victory to clinch the win for the Hogs, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.

With the doubles win, Herrera and Dimitroska, No. 8 in the South Central Region, are now 13-8 overall and 2-2 versus nationally-ranked opponents – all in doubles No. 1. Grlj and Lua improved to 10-10 on the year.

In singles action, Larrea and Saenz are now tied for the team lead with 12 wins apiece. Saenz is now 8-1 in her last nine matches.

In a couple of weeks, the Javelinas will return to SHTC as CU will host the LSC Championships. Texas A&M-Kingsville resumes action tomorrow at Southern Nazarene University (2-5) at 9 a.m.
