BISHOP, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (13-10, 2-1 LSC) carried a 2-1 lead into singles play when a rain delay halted play. However, the Javelinas were able to continue their momentum and end the regular season with a 5-4 win over Tarleton State University (6-8, 0-3 LSC) on Saturday afternoon on the Bishop High School Tennis Courts, clinching the No. 2 spot in the upcoming Lone Star Conference Championships.

With the win, the Javelinas conclude the regular season 13-10 overall and on a three-match win streak with two coming versus conference opponents.

Mariaxi Herrera and
Marija Dimitrovska downed Luiza Ferraro-Adas and Ashleigh Elward, 8-5, in doubles No. 1 and
Paula Saenz and
Erika Larrea clinched lane No. 3 with an 8-5 win over Erika Richarme and Ariadna Cabezas-Marti.

In a battle of regionally-ranked opponents, Herrera handed Richarme a 6-3, 6-3 loss in singles No. 1, improving to 12-8 overall and 5-6 in regionally-ranked matches. Dimitrovksa closed out the regular season 11-9 in singles play after taking flight No. 3, 6-4, 7-5 and Larrea clinched the victory for the Hogs, escaping singles No. 5 with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win.

Larrea finished the 2015 spring season 14-4 overall and Saenz went 13-6 to reach double figures in singles wins along with Herrera and Dimitrovska. Herrera and Dimitrovska finished their third season as a unit 14-9 while
Nadia Grlj and
Tabata Lua and Larrea and Saenz each registered 10 wins.

The 2015 LSC Championships will be held in Lawton, Okla. beginning on April 24.
