BRADENTON, Fla. (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (9-8) had the tough task of facing four nationally-ranked players on Thursday when the Javelinas battled No. 3 State College of Florida (10-1). The Hogs kept it close but the Manatees defeated TAMUK, 5-0, on their campus courts.

Paula Saenz and
Erika Larrea nearly took doubles No. 3, 8-6, and
Mariaxi Herrera and
Marija Dimitrovska almost upset their opponents in doubles No. 1, 8-6, but SCF was able to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.

No. 19 Miranda Talbert took No. 2 and Sarah Peek came out victorious in singles No. 3 to clinch the win for the Manatees. Despite falling in the first set to No. 42 Amiena Houston and No. 30 Mikala Lowrance in singles No. 4 and 5, respectively,
Tabata Lua and Saenz were leading in the second set. Herrera took the opening set in singles No. 1 over No. 4 Natella Nabieva, 6-3.

The Sunshine State road trip concludes tomorrow when the Javelinas and Bluefield State College collide in Winter Park on the campus of Rollins College.
