Javelinas improve to 3-3 on the year heading into its two matches on Friday

AUSTIN, Texas (Tennis) – A busy four-match in two-day span for Texas A&M University-Kingsville (3-3) began with the Javelinas splitting their two matches on Thursday at the Strohmeyer Tennis Courts. In the win versus the University of Central Oklahoma (2-4), TAMUK took all three doubles matches and Mariaxi Herrera defeated No. 9 (in central region) Alina Gorina, 6-4, 6-3, and Marija Dimitrovska and Paula Saenz came out victorious in their singles flights. Erika Larrea was winning 6-1, 3-1 in singles No. 6.

"I am very proud of this team," said head coach Autumn Williams. "They fought for every point. It was a good day on the courts for us. UCO was a tough team, but the girls were focused and fueled by the events of the day."

Match One
The Javelinas trailed 3-0 heading into singles play after the Hilltoppers took all three doubles. Herrera gave No. 49 Brooke Hughes a run in flight No. 1 before St. Edward's took the singles match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. In flight No. 3, Dimitrovska nearly upset Rafaela Haegele, 6-4, 6-5. However, St. Edward's was able to capitalize and defeat the Javelinas, 7-0.

St. Edward's entered ranked No. 4 in the South Central Region in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll, released on Feb. 25. The Hilltoppers featured three regionally-ranked players.
