GAME 10: Baseball Takes Five-Game Win Streak to Laredo

Javelinas are 6-3 on the year while the Dustdevils boast a 6-7 mark

LAREDO, Texas (Baseball) –
Fresh off a three-game sweep to extend its win streak to five, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-3) takes a break from its home schedule and heads to Texas A&M International University (6-7) for a 4 p.m. battle on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Uni-Trade Stadium.

The Javelinas dominated their weekend series versus Texas College, defeating the Steers, 15-4, 12-5, and 9-2, respectively. As a team, the Hogs hit .393 and recorded 12 extra base hits and on the hill, all three starters went 5.0 innings to earn the win. Cline Andrews recorded seven hits in 12 at-bats last week, including three extra base hits. The third baseman scored eight times and blasted a long ball to deep left field. He registered two hits in the series opener and three in each of Saturday's slates and finished the series with six RBI. Defensively, he did not commit an error in the hot corner.

Jimmy Roche's defense was sensational in game two with the first baseman making three exceptional plays, including a run-saving stop in the third. Roche also tallied two triples in the game.

For the season, Andrews leads Texas A&M-Kingsville with a .429 batting average, 15 hits, five doubles and 12 RBI. He is one of three players with a home run, the leader being Brayton Carlson (two). Ryan Fickel and Clint Wallace are hitting .417 and .407, respectively, and the Javelinas as a team, are one of the hottest hitting teams in the nation, boasting a .321 batting average, 17 doubles and five triples. Wallace currently has a seven-game hit streak and has reached base safely in all eight games he started.

One Win Away from History
With his next victory, head coach Jason Gonzales will tie Hector Salinas for second place on the all-time wins list in Javelina history (190). Gonzales has led the Hogs to three consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Regional appearances, and TAMUK has been just one out away from advancing to the College World Series in back-to-back seasons.

Closer Ryan Scott is currently tied with Juan Obregon for second on the all-time saves list with 16. Scott is just eight saves away from tying the career saves mark in Kingsville.

Weston's Rubber Arm
Setup man Weston Silverberg has allowed just one hit in four appearances this season (6.0 innings), tallying seven strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .050 batting average.

Trey Taylor has been lights out thus far, allowing just one run in 5.1 innings as a reliever.

Scouting the Dustdevils
Texas A&M International is 6-7 on the year after taking splitting Saturday's doubleheader versus Tarleton State University. Cody Perez is batting .412 and three regulars are hitting at least .310, but the pitching staff has struggled early in 2015, allowing 69 runs – 61 earned – in 81.0 innings (6.78 ERA). Jeremy Gonzalez (2-1) has thrown two complete games and has a 3.78 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 16.2 innings.

All-Time Series
The Javelinas lead the all-time series 10-6 after sweeping the meetings last season. TAMUK enters Tuesday with a five-game win streak against TAMIU with its last loss coming on Feb. 21, 2012 (8-6). However, the Dustdevils are 4-2 when hosting the Hogs.
