BROWNWOOD, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-2) dominated its way to a 9-0 win over Howard Payne University (1-1) on Saturday morning at the Nabers Tennis Center. The win is the school's first 9-0 victory since being reinstated in 2011-12 and first under new head coach
Autumn Williams.
"I am very pleased with the way we played today," said Williams. "They remained determined and focused and it was a good overall win."
Mariaxi Herrera and
Marija Dimitrovska defeated Alex Marlin and Brittany Walker, 8-1, in doubles No. 1 and
Nadia Grlj and
Tabata Lua took No. 2, 8-0. Completing the doubles sweep were
Erika Larrea and
Paula Saenz in doubles No. 3, defeated Tiffany Bullocka dn Devn Mendelson, 8-4.
Larrea improved to 3-0 in single play, taking flight No. 6, 6-1, 6-0. Herrera downed Marlin, 6-0, 6-0, singles No. 1 and Dimitrovska, Grlj, Lua and Saenz earned singles wins in the first ever matchup at Howard Payne.
The Lady Jackets were coming off a 6-3 season-opening win over LeTourneau on Friday.
Texas A&M-Kingsville heads to future Lone Star Conference member University of Texas of the Permian Basin on Monday.
