KINGSVILLE, Texas –Fresh off a series sweep of Cameron at home and a mid-week win over 3rd-ranked St. Mary's, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team heads to Portales for a 4-game series with Eastern New Mexico.
Because of inclement weather on the horizon the teams have adjusted their schedule to play two doubleheaders. The teams will open with a twinbill at 4 p.m. central time on Friday at Greyhounds Field with a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m.
The Javelinas stand 11-7 overall and are 5-3 in the Lone Star Conference. The Greyhounds enter 12-8 and are 2-6 in the LSC.
The series will pit two of the LSC's top hitters against each other. Kingsville's led by
Ryan Guedry, who is tied for sixth in the LSC in hitting with a .385 average, while Eastern's Ryan Forkel leads the conference with a .429. Blake Cooper is second in the conference with four Greyhound home runs, and
Taylor Taska is tied for third with three.
Matt Perez leads four Kingsville players in LSC's top eight in walks. He has 16 in 17 games.
Taska is third in the LSC with a 0.89 earned-run average, while
Denver Diefenbach is tenth with a 2.16 mark. The Javelinas are third in the conference with a 3.32 team ERA.
Dallas Ponder and Diefenbach have each recorded three wins.Eastern New Mexico is sixth in ERA at 4.70 with three players with three wins each.
