KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team returns to Nolan Ryan Field on this weekend to host Texas College in a 3-game series before opening Lone Star Conference action next weekend at West Texas A&M.
After starting the season 2-0, the Javelinas will be looking to get back in the groove having lost their last four contests to fall to 2-4. The Steers enter the series with a 5-5 mark. The teams will play a single game at 6 p.m. on Friday with a doubleheader Saturday with the first game at 1 p.m.
Kingsville enters the weekend with a .242 average at the plate. Seniors
Dustin Aguilar,
Justin Lee and
Derrick Walls are each hitting over .300. Aguilar leads the way with a .385 average, while Lee is hitting .353. Walls is batting .304.
Taylor Taska leads the team with two home runs, six runs batted in and five runs scored.
Denver Diefenbach leads the starts with a 3.27 earned-run average and has a 1-1 record.
Dallas Ponder is 1-1 as well.
Matt Rhodes has 11 strikeouts in 12 innings of work, while Ponder has 10 Ks in nine innings. Out of the bullpen,
Cody Williams has pitched 6-2/3 innings and has not allowed a run as the staff has amassed a 3.50 ERA.
The Steers are led at the plate by Caeser Valtierra who is hitting .412 on the season with seven runs batted in. On the mound, Lew Cardonna is tops with two wins and has a 1.80 earned run average in 20 innings pitched.
