Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's track and field teams are looking to do damage in Canyon this weekend as they open their postseasons at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships.
The teams qualified 58 athletes, 34 men and 24 women, who will compete across three days: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the meet.Â
On Thursday, 19 Javelinas will compete in event finals (18 in field, one in track), while 14 will take part in track event preliminaries. Friday, the second day of the meet, will feature 15 athletes in event finals (14 in field, one in track), and 19 will take part in track preliminaries.
The final day of the competition, on Saturday, 17 Javelinas in the field, and at least 19 Javelinas on the track (in addition to any athletes who qualify for a track event finals) will close out the weekend for TAMUK.
Heading into the conference meet, the Kingsville men's team holds 15 top-five marks in the conference, while the women's team holds nine.
Entering the weekend, Kingsville holds 10 top-25 marks in the nation (nine individuals and one relay), five on the men's side and five on the women's. Of those, two (
Yosiris Cordoba's throw in the women' discus and
Trevor Upton's jump in the men's pole vault) rank top-10 in the nation.Â
