LSC Day Two Recap: Cordoba becomes number six all-time in Division II history

Canyon - In day two of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships, the Javelinas had five podium finishes, led by junior women's thrower Yosiris Cordoba, who made history in the discus. The teams also had another six Hogs qualify for the finals in their respective events on Saturday.

Earning the gold medal for the first time in her Javelina Career, Cordoba smashed her previous outdoor record twice. First with a throw of 56.45m, then on her first throw of finals she threw  57.63m to break her record for the second time in the same day. That same throw also became the best throw in all of Division II, and became the sixth all-time throw in D-II History.

The Decathlon event came to an end early Friday afternoon. Caden Soliz earned the bronze medal edging out the fourth place finisher by just 12 points. Soliz jumped his personal best in pole vault, clearing a height of 3.65m. Jason Gordon would come in second earning the silver medal in the decathlon, staying ahead of third place by nearly 1,200 points. Gordon also recorded five new personal bests during his stellar performance.

The Hogs weren't finished there, Jayden McCoy brought home the bronze medal in long jump. With a jump of 7.37m, McCoy also recorded his personal best so far in his young career. Earning the silver in long jump, edging out McCoy by just .01m, was Christopher Gonzalez with a jump of 7.38m. Gonzalez recorded that jump in his very first attempt of the finals round. He then passed on his last two attempts in order to make it to his heat of the 400m hurdles prelims in time, where he would finish in first with a 52.19, earning a spot in Saturday's final.

Another five Javelinas would go on to advance to the finals on Saturday. Becoming the first Javelina to qualify on the day was Jhonatan Rodriguez-Osorno, who qualified for the 800m finals with a 1:53.09. Oneika Brissett would qualify in the 400m dash, winning her heat by a large margin and earning her automatic bid into the finals. On the men's side, they also had a Javelina qualify in the 400m dash. Joseph Mouaha snuck into the finals with a qualifying time of 47.73.

Lastly the Javelinas had two men qualify in the 100m dash. Ausencio Martinez and DaTavus Pope qualified with the exact same time of 10.44, giving them a shot to add extra points on the board for the Javelinas.

Going into the final day, the Javelina Men's team currently sits in second place with 55 points. They're 4 points ahead of Angelo State and just two points away from West Texas A&M. The women's team stands in sixth, just nine points out of third place.
