Kingsville - Following a perfect, 2-0, weekend in the final home competitions of her career, graduate student
Maya Donkor became the first Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis player in program history to win the Lone Star Conference's Singles Player of the Week award.
Since the splitting of the award into separate singles and doubles designation prior to the start of this season, Donkor is the first Javelina to earn the award, and the first TAMUK tennis player to win an LSC weekly award since Alessia Maier in February of 2024.
To earn the award, Donkor nabbed a pair of singles wins at the No.1 spot for Kingsville, beating UT-Tyler's No.10-ranked Yona Bancarel in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday before returning to the Javelina Tennis Courts on Saturday to beat UT-Dallas' Katia Robinson 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Donkor now sits at 4-4 in LSC singles play and 9-9 overall.
The Javelinas will be back in action at noon tomorrow to take on UT-Permian Basin at noon in the squad's regular season finale.
