Kingsville — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team hits the road this week for the final two matches of the regular season, traveling to Lubbock to face Lubbock Christian University on Thursday before heading to Odessa to take on UT Permian Basin on Friday. With a four-match winning streak and a spot in the LSC Tournament on the line, this weekend could not carry more weight.
The Javelinas enter the week at 8-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play, currently sitting sixth in the LSC standings. The top six teams advance to the LSC Tournament, meaning Kingsville controls its own destiny. Two wins this week would go a long way toward securing a postseason berth and capping off one of the most impressive late-season runs in the program.
The Javelinas will lean heavily on their top performers to close the season strong. Annika Andersson Gomez enters the final weekend riding a remarkable 10-match singles winning streak, establishing herself as one of the most dominant players in the conference down the stretch. Meanwhile the nationally ranked doubles pair of Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donkor, ranked No. 12 in the country after jumping eight spots in the latest rankings, will look to set the tone early in both matches.

Thursday's match is the tougher of the two on paper. Lubbock Christian enters at 9-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play, riding a three-match winning streak and firmly in the upper half of the LSC standings. The Chaparrals have been one of the more consistent programs in the conference this spring, making this a true road test for the Javelinas.
Adding another layer to the matchup, Lubbock Christian boasts the No. 4-ranked doubles pair in the nation in Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric, setting up a marquee clash at the top of the doubles lineup against the No. 12-ranked Tocci and Donkor. Zoric is also a threat in singles at No. 60 in the nation, making her one of the more complete players the Javelinas will face all season. A win Thursday would be a massive statement heading into the final day of the regular season.
at UT Permian Basin — Apr. 24 | Odessa, Texas | 12:00 p.m.
Friday's match against UT Permian Basin presents another opportunity as the Falcons enter at 5-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play. UT Permian Basin has won two straight, so the Javelinas cannot afford to look past them. A focused effort on Friday could be the difference between a postseason run and watching from home.
The Javelinas have won four straight and four straight in conference play. The momentum is there. The opportunity is there. This week, Kingsville goes on the road to finish what it started.
