Kingsville - Junior Texas A&M-Kingsville women's track and field thrower
Yosiris Cordoba earned the second Lone Star Conference Field Athlete of the Week award of her career with the best throw in the nation so far this season in the discus.
She tossed an incredible 53.57m in the event on Saturday at the 2026 Cactus Cup in Kingsville, breaking her own school record. The throw also moved her back atop the nation's leaderboard as the new longest throw in the event in all of D2 this year.
The award is Cordoba's second this season, making her the third Javelina in the last five years to win multiple LSC Women's Field AoTW (
Katryna Hernandez - 2024, Gertrudis Balli - 2022). Of the eight Field AoTW awards given out by the LSC so far this season (four men's, four women's), Kingsville has won four, two of each.Â
Cordoba and the Javelina squads will be back in action this weekend in Houston at the Tom Tellez Invitational. Three distance runners (two men's, one women) will be heading to Azusa, California, for the Bryan Clay Invitational.
