Kingsville - The first Lone Star Conference Athlete of the Week awards of the season were released Tuesday afternoon, with a pair of Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field athletes, junior thrower
Yosiris Cordoba and freshman pole vaulter
Trevor Upton, bringing home the first Field Athlete of the Week of their careers.
Cordoba has had an incredible start to her first season in Kingsville, throwing 52.77m in the discus, the longest throw in the nation so far this year, and a new Javelina school record. She has also thrown 12.89m in the shot put, the 26th-best throw in the nation this season. Just two competitions into her Javelina career, she won the first Athlete of the Week award of her career.
After winning one during the indoor season, Upton was quick to earn an outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Award to match it. This past weekend at the UTSA Invite, he cleared a bar set at 5.25m, which is not only the fourth-best vault in the nation this year, but is also the fourth best clearance in school history.
Upton, Cordoba, and the rest of the Javelinas will be heading to San Angelo to compete across three days at the David Noble Relays from Thursday through Saturday.Â
