Box Score San Angelo, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team dropped a competitive match to the University of Central Oklahoma Thursday afternoon at the ASU Tennis Complex, falling to 4-2 on the season. The Javelinas showed significant fight, winning the doubles point and pushing the Bronchos in several hard-fought singles matches.
Kingsville swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, with Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donkor edging their opponents 7-5, while Kaitlin Blount and Annika Andersson Gomez and the tandem of Andrea Landaeta and Emma Halvarsson each won convincingly. It marked a strong team effort out of the gate that gave the Javelinas early momentum.
In singles play, Gomez continued her strong stretch of tennis, battling back from a second-set loss to claim a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory. Halvarsson also picked up a singles win, taking her match in two sets. Blount pushed her opponent to three sets before ultimately falling 3-6, 6-4, 4-6 in one of the day's most competitive matches.
The Javelinas return home with a 4-2 record and plenty of positives to build on. Kingsville will open Lone Star Conference play at home on March 13 against Angelo State, with matches set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
