Kingsville — Looking to find their footing after dropping three straight, the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team heads to Orlando, Florida this week for a trio of neutral-site matchups at the USTA National Campus, facing the University of Tampa, Slippery Rock University and Bryant University over four days.
The Javelinas sit at 4-3 on the season after dropping three consecutive matches, including Friday's LSC opener against No. 44 Angelo State at home. Kingsville will look to regroup this week against three quality opponents away from home.
vs. University of Tampa — Mar. 16 | Orlando, Florida | 11:30 a.m.
The Javelinas open the week Monday morning against the University of Tampa. The Spartans enter at 4-7 on the season and compete in the Sunshine State Conference. Tampa has faced a difficult schedule this spring, including a matchup this past weekend against No. 6 Mississippi College, and brings experience and depth into Monday's contest. It's a good opportunity for Kingsville to get back in the win column to start the week.
vs. Slippery Rock University — Mar. 17 | Orlando, Florida | 12:00 p.m.
Tuesday afternoon brings the toughest test of the week in Slippery Rock University. The Rock compete out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and boast multiple regionally and nationally ranked players, headlined by Alissia Kivi, one of the top singles players in the Atlantic Region. Head coach Matt Meredith has built one of the more consistent programs in Division II over his 28 seasons at the helm, and Tuesday's matchup shapes up as the marquee challenge of Kingsville's Florida trip.
vs. Bryant University — Mar. 19 | Orlando, Florida | 11:30 a.m.
Kingsville closes out the week Thursday morning against Bryant University, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference champions. The Bulldogs have been one of the hotter teams in the country of late, winning eight of their last nine matches and arriving in Orlando at 8-4 overall. Thursday's finale gives the Javelinas a chance to close out the trip on a strong note.
Three matches in four days on a national stage present a real opportunity for Kingsville to right the ship and carry momentum back into LSC play.
