Javelinas Battle Tough Field at DBU Tournament

DALLAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina STUNT team wrapped up weekend action at the DBU Tournament on Friday and Saturday, finishing 1-3 against a challenging slate of ranked opponents while continuing to gain valuable experience in their second season.

The tournament began Friday with a difficult test against fourth-ranked Dallas Baptist University, the host school. The Patriots demonstrated their top-five pedigree, handing the Javelinas a 25-3 defeat in the opening match.

Friday's second contest brought another ranked opponent as TAMUK faced 14th-ranked Southern Nazarene University. The Crimson Storm proved to be equally formidable, with the Javelinas falling 22-17 in a closer contest that showed signs of competitiveness.

The weekend's bright spot came Saturday against 21st-ranked St. Edward's University, where the Javelinas secured a decisive 27-12 victory.

Saturday's finale against 11th-ranked Texas Woman's University saw the Pioneers pull away with a 19-3 victory, closing out a tournament that provided the 18th-ranked Javelinas with important experience against quality opposition.

The DBU Tournament served as another developmental opportunity for the Javelinas, who continue building on their historic inaugural season that produced the program's first-ever postseason victory. The split weekend showed both the challenges of facing multiple ranked opponents and the potential the team possesses when executing its game plan.

The Javelinas will return to Dallas later this month for another DBU-hosted tournament, facing St. Edward's in a rematch on Feb. 19, followed by Hope International University (Calif.) later that evening and Arizona Christian University on Feb. 20.
