Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina STUNT team returns to the road this week, traveling to Dallas for the DBU Tournament where they will face four opponents over the course of two days.
The Javelinas are looking to build on momentum from their season-opening tournament at McNeese State, where they finished 1-2 with a commanding 15-3 victory over Centenary College (Louisiana) in their final match of the day. While the 18th-ranked Javelinas faced tough losses to No. 11 Texas Woman's University (18-1) and host McNeese State (16-4), their ability to bounce back and dominate in the finale demonstrated the team's resilience and growth potential.
"We are super excited to be back at DBU." Head Coach Lindsey Garcia said. "After going 1 of 3 last week and getting those fears and nerves out of the way, we are super pumped to see what outcomes we have this weekend."
Friday, February 6Â
The tournament begins with back-to-back matches on Friday afternoon. The Javelinas will first face No. 4 Dallas Baptist University at 1:30 PM before taking on No. 14 Southern Nazarene University at 4:30 PM.
Dallas Baptist represents one of the toughest challenges on the Javelinas' schedule, ranked fourth nationally and serving as the tournament host. Southern Nazarene also brings a strong program to the mat, sitting just outside the top 10 in the preseason rankings. These matches will provide valuable experience against elite competition as the young Javelina squad continues to develop.
Saturday, February 7
The weekend continues with another doubleheader on Saturday. TAMUK will match up against No. 21 St. Edward's University at 10:30 AM before closing out the tournament against No. 11 Texas Woman's University at 1:30 PM.
The matchup with St. Edward's holds special significance, as the Hilltoppers were the opponents when the Javelinas earned the program's very first postseason victory last season with an 11-6 triumph. Texas Woman's will provide an opportunity for redemption after the Pioneers handed Kingsville an 18-1 defeat in the season opener just days earlier.
The DBU Tournament represents another challenging test for the Javelinas as they navigate a schedule packed with ranked opponents. With four matches in two days against quality competition, the team will have ample opportunities to implement adjustments and continue building on their inaugural season's historic success.
