Javelinas Hit the Road for Pair of North Texas Matches

Kingsville - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team heads to North Texas this week for a pair of matches as the Javelinas look to build momentum early in the 2026 season.

Kingsville will face Collin College on Thursday at 12 p.m. in McKinney before traveling to Dallas to take on Southern Arkansas University on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

The Javelinas are looking to bounce back after dropping a 6-1 exhibition dual match to UT Rio Grande Valley in their season opener at the Javelina Tennis Complex. While the match didn't count toward their official record, it provided valuable experience and highlighted areas of strength heading into competition that will impact their standings.

Guadalupe Tocci led the way for Kingsville in the exhibition, posting a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles. Emma Halvarsson also showed promise, nearly forcing a third set at No. 5 before falling 4-6, 5-7 in a tightly contested match. Maya Donkor demonstrated resilience at No. 2, battling back in the second set after a tough opening frame.

vs. Collin College - Feb. 5

The Javelinas open their official season against Collin College Thursday afternoon. Both teams will be looking to start their spring campaigns on a positive note, as the Cougars also begin their season after finishing 5-15 in 2024-25.

This mid-day matchup provides Kingsville an opportunity to establish early-season confidence and refine the lineup adjustments that have proven successful in past campaigns before facing a significantly stronger opponent later in the week.

vs. Southern Arkansas University - Feb. 7

Kingsville faces its toughest test of the early season on Saturday morning against Southern Arkansas University. The Muleriders enter 2026 riding strong momentum after an impressive 18-7 overall record and a perfect 5-0 conference mark in 2024-25. Their outstanding season included a Great American Conference Tournament championship and an NCAA DII Central Region Preliminary Round appearance.

Southern Arkansas has been picked to finish second in the GAC coaches poll, reflecting the program's continued excellence and high expectations for the upcoming season. The matchup will provide the Javelinas with an excellent measuring stick as they continue to build toward Lone Star Conference play.

With their home opener slated for March 13, these road matches provide crucial experience and an opportunity to establish team chemistry before the heart of the season begins. The Javelinas will look to carry lessons learned from their exhibition into matches that count in the win column.
