Kingsville — Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to the friendly confines of Javelina Stadium to take on West Texas A&M in Lone Star Conference action Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Javelinas (2-2, 2-0 LSC) are coming off back-to-back conference wins after dropping their first two nonconference contests of the 2026 season. They'll now return home to take on the Buffaloes (1-3, 1-1 LSC), who are looking to find their footing this season after dropping their previous matchup to Midwestern State.
Saturday's contest will also serve as the Hall of Fame game for Javelina Athletics, recognizing the eight inductees who will be inducted into the Javelina Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday. Those honorees include Donald Washington, Ed Turner, Joan Nuesch, Randy Hughes, Brady Tiggert, Robert Armstrong, Jeron Robinson and the 2003 Javelina football team.
Despite the slow start to the 2026 season, the Javelinas are now rolling through conference play with a pair of 50-plus-point performances. This marks the first time the Javelinas have notched back-to-back 50-point games since the 2016 season, a season in which the Javelinas finished 9-3. West Texas A&M, meanwhile, is looking to get its offense going against the Javelinas, as the Buffaloes rank eighth in the LSC, scoring 23.3 points per game.
The Javelinas are coming off a record-setting performance from receiver Christian Kretz last week. Kretz set program records for a single game with 17 catches for 306 receiving yards while adding three touchdowns. The performance earned Kretz Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors in the LSC and marked the most receiving yards and receptions in a single game in Division II this season.
Not to be outdone, quarterback Mills Dawson has settled into head coach Scott Parr's offense through conference play. After a slow start, Dawson has been on fire with 716 total yards and six touchdowns through conference play. Dawson currently ranks second in the Lone Star Conference with 1,088 passing yards and third in completion percentage at 63.3%.
