Silver City, NM - Senior Wide Receiver Chrsitian Kretz set new single-game high marks as Texas A&M-Kingsville toppled Western New Mexico, 52-14, Saturday from Ben Altamirano Field.
Kretz set single-game records in both receptions (14) and receiving yards () to power the Javelinas (2-2, 2-0 LSC) for their second straight conference win over the Mustangs (1-4, 0-3 LSC). Â Kretz's 200-plus yard performance is the first one since Jordan Thomas tied the single-game record with 212 yards in the 2017 season.
The party would get started by
Edward Chumley however, who scored on an 18-yard rushing touchdown to open up the scoring for the Javelinas. The defense then made the next splash play thanks to a diving interception by
Kobe Burgess to stop the Mustang offense and preserve the Javelinas' 7-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Kretz would then be unleashed on Western New Mexico in the second quarter, racking up seven catches and a pair of touchdowns. Those two touchdowns would prove vital, as Western New Mexico answered with their own touchdown thanks to a 17-yard strike to even up the game early in the quarter.
Julian Payne also had a highlight moment in the second quarter, leaping off of a block to intercept the Mustang's pass to step up one of Kretz's touchdowns.Â
The passing game was not finished as the teams came out of the break for the second half as quarterback
Mills Dawson launched a missile to Kretz down the seam, who then broke a tackle and trotted into the endzone for his third touchdown of the game. That touchdown reception gave Kretz a share of the record for most receiving touchdowns in a single game, a record he also tied last season against Western Oregon.
Western New Mexico was able to answer right back however, ripping off a 59-yard touchdown to make it a 32-14 contest. The rushing attack of the Javelinas responded, with
Levi Fontenot and
Edward Chumley both ripping off long touchdown runs to all but salt the game away for the Javelinas.

- The Javelinas had their second consecutive game forcing multiple turnovers with three  interceptions and a fumble recovery.
