Kingsville – The Texas A&M University-Kingsville women's tennis team will host UTRGV this weekend at the Javelina Tennis Courts to open its 2026 spring season. After a successful fall that saw four players earn ITA Fall Regional Rankings, the Javelinas are ready to compete. Matches are set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
"The countdown to the season began in October," head coach Autumn Williams said. "It's really exciting for it to finally be here. We are looking forward to showing the university and fans how talented of a team that we have."
Three Javelinas who earned fall rankings will lead the singles draw against Division I competition. Sophomore Andrea Landaeta finished the fall ranked No. 7 in the ITA Fall Regional Rankings after upsetting multiple seeded players en route to the quarterfinals at the ITA Regional Small College Championship.
Senior Guadalupe Tocci was ranked No. 9 in the fall rankings and begins her final season with the Javelinas after advancing to the round of 16 at the Small College Championship.
Freshman Lilly-Isabelle Muraske earned the No. 11 spot in the fall rankings after reaching the round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championship with victories over seeded opponents.
Senior Annika Andersson Gomez and senior Yasmin El Fadili will both compete, bringing veteran experience to the lineup. Redshirt junior Kaitlin Blount returns for her third year with the program, while freshman Emma Halvarsson will make her spring debut for the Javelinas.
On the doubles side, Maya Donkor and Muraske earned a No. 5 ranking in the South-Central Region during the fall after reaching the quarterfinals at the Small College Championship, the program's highest doubles ranking since 2021.
The Javelinas will look to avenge last year's 6-1 loss to UTRGV, which came on February 1, 2025, in Edinburg.
"UTRGV is always a tough opponent," Williams said. "We are looking forward to getting out there and battling it out."
