Javelinas battle D-1 competition at Islander Open

Corpus Christi - The second weekend of the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team saw it battle against a slew of NCAA Division One opponents at the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open.

Despite facing an extremely competitive field, including the University of Houston, Lamar, UT-San Antonio, Incarnate Word, and the tournament's host, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Javelinas battled, picking up multiple match wins in both singles and doubles play.

"I believe we won the matches we were supposed to win and we competed with resilience in the match that we didn't," Head Coach Autumn Wollenzien said. "It's a good challenge and a great opportunity to play those at a D1. It brings out a different side to players who are competitive and want to learn."

"We were right in the mix of where we needed to be," Wollenzien said. "Ultimately, it helps us become the competitors we are striving to become."
