Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville's women's tennis team and Head Coach
Autumn Wollenzien officially announced their finalized roster ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The team adds three new faces, two incoming freshmen and one transfer athlete, who are set to join five returners, one of whom Javelina fans haven't seen in the blue and gold since 2022.Â
"I believe with our new additions to the roster, we have a very strong team," Wollenzien said. "Our returners are committed and our newbies are enthusiastic. We hope to grow that enthusiasm and commitment throughout the fall in our planned schedule, which will hopefully propel us into a record-setting spring."
The team is fresh off of a season where it collected a pair of wins over top-25-ranked opponents, and earned a berth to the Lone Star Conference Tournament as the No.5 seed in the conference. Though it lost valuable players, including a pair of talented graduating seniors, TAMUK returns a number of key pieces, highlighted by rising senior
Guadalupe Tocci, who played much of last season at the No.1 spot in both singles and doubles. Alongside her, rising seniors Annika Andersson-Gomez and
Kaitlin Blount bring back veteran experience while sophomore
Andrea Landaeta will look to build on a strong start to her young career, which saw her play in the No.6 singles spot as a true freshman.
Not only that, but the Javelinas also bring back graduate student
Maya Donkor, a native of McLean, TX, who is set to re-join the program after graduating from TAMUK three years ago. Donkor spent much of her upperclassmen years playing in the No.1 singles spot and helped lead the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
"To have a great player like
Maya Donkor return to our roster is very exciting. She's an awesome teammate and experienced player. She will bring a lot of confidence to our team."
Three new Javelinas will be joining the crew, all of them international. Two freshmen, Swedish native
Emma Halvarsson and German Lilly-Isabelle Muraske, will join incoming junior transfer
Hannah Nagpall, who is originally from Noida, India.
