Portales, NM - The 2025 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships are officially underway in Portales and, through one day, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's and men's track and field teams are already out to a hot start.
Senior
Thomas Nieto capped off the day with a fantastic vault of 5.46m in the men's pole vault, a new season best clearance for him, the new third-highest jump in the nation this season, and the best vault of the day in the Lone Star. Not far behind the new LSC Champ was junior
Django Segovia, who cleared 4.96m, placing third in the event. The men's hammer throw also saw a podium finish for the Javelinas, as senior
Paxton Hair threw 52.20m, taking home a third-place finish.Â
Junior
Ivanova Yanes placed sixth in the women's 10,000m run with a 38:11.39, bringing in three points for the Javelinas. Freshman
Dorian Aranda brough the Javelinas two points with a seventh place finish in the men's triple jump, leaping 14.09m.
Multis: Sophomore
Afaf Benhadja sits in third place, just 127 points out of the lead, in the heptathlon with three events, the long jump, javelin, and 800m run, left. Freshman
Caden Soliz is in third place in the decathlon with 3046 points, while graduate student
Roel DeLeon sits in fourth place with 2401.
At the end of day one, the TAMUK men's team sits in third place (of 10) while the women sit in seventh (of seven).
Finals Qualifiers
Senior
Cynai Christopher qualified for the women's 200m dash finals with a 24.00, the sixth-best time in the prelims. Senior
Maya Espinosa qualified for the women's 1500m finals with a 4:43.32, placing eighth in the prelims.Â
Sophomore
Nirmit Dahiya won the 1500m prelims by nearly nine seconds with a 4:00.50, qualifying him for the finals
