Kingsville - In his collegiate decathlon debut, Texas A&M-Kingsville men's track and field freshman
Christopher Gonzalez had a standout performance, earning him the first Lone Star Conference Field Athlete award of his career.
Gonzalez posted a 6266 in the decathlon at Angelo St.'s David Noble Relays last weekend in San Angelo. Not only is the score the 10th-best in school history, but it's also the sixth-best in the nation so far this year. Along the way, Gonzalez posted a leap of 7.59m in the long jump, the new 10th-best jump in school history.
The win keeps Kingsville's sweep of the men's Field Athlete of the Week award going, after freshman
Trevor Upton won the first such award of the season last week for his excellent pole vault performance.
Gonzalez will be travelling with a group of Javelinas to Austin for the Texas Relays this weekend, where he will race in the 4x400m relay.
