Women’s tennis taking on UT-Tyler in LSC Quarterfinals

Kingsville - The Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team is headed to Arlington to kick off its postseason campaign with a Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals matchup with UT-Tyler at noon on Thursday.

The Javelinas will be eying their first LSC Tournament win since 2021-22 with a rematch against the Patriots. After finishing 6-4 in LSC play during the regular season, Kingsville earned the No.5 seed in the six-team tournament, and a matchup with No.4 UTT.

After a slow start to their season, the Javelinas finished their season with an 11-4 record across their final 15 games, including a pair of wins over top-25 ranked opponents. One of their only three losses in the last six weeks, whoever, came at the hands of the Patriots, who beat them 7-0 in the HEB Tennis Center in Corpus Christi after severe weather forced the teams to move the match to an indoor location.

The Patriots are 16-9 on the year and finished the season just ahead of the Javelinas in the LSC standings, with a 7-3 in-conference record. The team is 2-2 in its last four matches, though both losses came against top-20 ranked teams, including a Senior Day loss to No.20 Lubbock Christian on Sunday. The top of UTT's lineup has been dominant, led by freshman Yona Bancarel, who plays primarily in the No.1 singles spot, and freshman Natalia Gorzny, who slides in at the No.2 singles spot. Bancarel and Gorzny have just three combined LSC losses in singles play.

Should the Javelinas win, they will face No.1 seed St. Mary's at 1 p.m. on Friday, with a date to the LSC Championship match (set for 1 p.m. on Saturday) on the line.
