Box Score Silver City, NM - With a 4-1 road win over Western New Mexico, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team completed its winningest regular season since 2017-18.
The Javelinas finish their regular season slate with a 12-7 overall record and a 6-4 Lone Star Conference record. Though their berth to the LSC Tournament has been secured for more than a week, the team must still wait on results from other conference teams to determine its seed in the six-team tournament.
In Friday's win, TAMUK travelled just five players to face off with the shorthanded Mustangs, who had just four active players. With not enough athletes on hand for either team to field a third doubles squad, a split on the first two courts meant a wash of the doubles point. Senior
Manuela Turolo and junior
Guadalupe Tocci won 6-4 on the No.1 doubles court, but graduate student
Luna Jokanovic and junior
Kaitlin Blount lost 5-7 on the second court, causing an unbreakable tie.
All four of Kingsville's points came from singles play, where Jokanovic won 6-1, 6-2 in the top slot and Tocci took a 6-2, 6-3 win on court two. Playing in the No.3 spot, Turolo won 6-2, 6-4, and Blount win automatically in the No.5 slot as WNM didn't have a player to face her. Freshman
Elise Broden lost 3-6, 3-6 playing in the No.4 singles spot.Â
The Javelinas will now await their first round matchup in the LSC Tournament, which will be played in Arlington next Thursday.
