Kingsville - With a spot in the Lone Star Conference tournament already clinched, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team is headed to Silver City, where the Javelinas will look to get back in the win column before the postseason with a noon Friday match against the Western New Mexico Mustangs.
The No.40-ranked Javelinas are 11-7 overall and 5-4 in LSC play. They currently sit in the No.5 spot in the conference standings, but have just one match - their contest against the shorthanded Mustangs - left on their schedule, as opposed to nearly every other LSC team, who each have two matches left.
The team can finish as high as fourth in the conference standings with a win and some help from other teams, and as low as sixth with a loss. The tournament is set to begin next Thursday in Arlington, TX.
Kingsville has won eight straight matches against the Mustangs, boasting a streak that stretches back to the 2016-17 season. This year, because WNM doesn't have a full lineup of active players, TAMUK will start with automatic wins at the No.5 and No.6 singles spots as well as a one-match advantage in doubles play.
