A
zusa, California - Three different records, two from junior
Ivanova Yanes, and one from senior
Maya Espinosa, fell at the Bryan Clay Invitational in the Sunshine State as the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's and men's track and field distance teams produced a stellar weekend once again.
"It was a great three days of racing in Cali," Assistant Coach
Zachary Hall said. "We walked away with many personal bests and school records."
In an unusual mid-week meet that saw the Javelinas compete on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Yanes started the action with a 35:36.02 10k time, which not only smashes TAMUK's previous program record, but is also the 31st-fastest time run in the event so far this season. She followed that performance up with a 17:10.92 in the 5k, breaking the previous school record by nearly 16 seconds.
Espinosa made it three records in three days with a 4:34.18 1500m run late on Friday night, helping the senior etch her name in yet another spot in the record book for the Javelinas.Â
Aside from just the records, the rest of the crew that Hall brought to California put on stellar performances as well. The three men's 800m runners all posted top-40 times in all of D2 on Thursday, led by sophomore
Keyshawn Garcia, who broke 1:50 with the 22nd-fastest time run in the nation this year at 1:49.94. Not far behind him were sophomore Jhonatan Rodriguez Osorno, who ran a 1:50.28, the 31st-quickest in the nation, and junior
Cody Fountain, 1:50.48 is the new 33rd-best time in D2. Not only that, but sophomore
Nirmit Dahiya nearly broke a school record himself, running a 3:48.63 in the 1500m.
Kingsville will be splitting up its squad once against his coming week, with part of the crew headed back to Austin for the Texas Invitational, and the rest slated to compete at the Rice Twilight Meet in Houston.
