Javelinas prepping for key LSC showdown with No.27 St. Mary’s

Kingsville - The red-hot Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team is headed to San Antonio for a crucial Lone Star Conference matchup with No.27 St. Mary's at 2 p.m. on Friday.

Sporting a brand-new No.31 ranking, the Javelinas are riding a pair of home wins from last weekend, including a 4-3 upset of No.21 Lubbock Christian. The team has now won 10 of its last 13 matches heading into its final two contests of the regular season.

As the top of the LSC standings shake out, Friday's top-ranked matchup will likely hold significant weight in the top spots in the conference. The Javelinas hold a 5-3 LSC record but have played two more matches than a number of their in-conference opponents, including the Rattlers, who are 5-1.

Much like TAMUK, STM brings a winning streak into the match, having won its last three contests in a row, including a pair of top-30-ranked wins in a row, as it toppled No.29 UT-Tyler and No.24 DBU, jumping 12 spots in the ITA D2 rankings in the process.

After Friday's contest, Kingsville will wait a week until it heads to Western New Mexico for its regular season finale against the Mustangs.
