Kingsville - In their first and only home event of the season, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's and men's track teams won eight combined events and produced four new top-10 scores in the nation at the 2025 Cactus Cup.
The Javelinas won three events on the women's side and five on the men's, led by yet another stellar day of competition from the throws squad, who put up three different top-three throws in all of D2 on Saturday.
Ronald Grueso Mosqueda, who was one of the 18 seniors being honored midway through his first and final home event in the blue and gold, dominated. He won both the men's discuss and the shot put, putting up the second-best throw in the nation so far this year in both events. Grueso threw 58.18m in the discus, which is also the second-best throw in school history. Not long after, he threw an 18.30m shot put, a top-10 throw in school history. Senior
Paxton Hair wasn't far behind in the discus, he threw 56.90m, the third-longest throw in the nation so far this season.
On the women's side, it was the team's all-world 4x400m relay that posted a top-of-the-nation score.

Sakara Wade, and
Cynai Christopher combined to run a 3:42.86, the 10th-best time in all of D2 this season and a top-10 time in school history. While their meet ended with that event, that wasn't the only time Brissett and Christopher did damage on Saturday. Christopher led the way in the women's 400m, an event that saw Kingsville go 1-2-3-4, running a 54.60 - the 14th-fastest time in the nation this season. Not far behind was Brissett in second place, who ran a 55.02, climbing into the top 30 with the 27th-fastest time in the nation.
Senior
Maya Espinosa led a TAMUK 1-2 finish in the women's 800m, winning the event with a 2:19.23. Not far behind was
Sophie Mossman, who placed second with a 2:24.27. Senior
Madison Alegria, who already has the fifth-highest high jump in the nation this season, placed second with an stellar 1.72m-clearing jump. Similarly, senior
Jazmin Ray, who owns the third-best triple jump in the nation this year, lept 12.14m on her first jump, placing second in the event.
Jazmine Miller's 25.01 placed her second in the 200m race.
On the men's side, the 4x400m crew of

Taylor Chaney,
Sterling Riles,
Michael Samihamba, who already have the second-best time in the event in the nation this season, only added to their great outdoor season with an event-winning 3:11.04. While he came up just shy of a season-best 5.36m, senior
Thomas Nieto cleared 5.26m, winning the pole vault and leading a 1-3-4-5 finish for Kingsville in the event. Freshman
Roberto Alejandro's 4:09.47 placed him second, leading three Javelinas in the top five at the 1500m.Â
The Javelinas' distance crew will be headed to Azusa, CA for midweek competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational.Â
