Kingsville - With a 5-2 win over UT - Permian Basin on Saturday, the Texas A&M - Kingsville women's tennis team competes the home portion of its schedule with a perfect, 3-0 record.
The team has now won 10 of its last 13 matches and improves to 5-3 in Lone Star Conference play with a key LSC win now under its belt.
"It was so great to have a senior day clinch by both seniors today," Head Coach
Autumn Wollenzien said. "Both these seniors have made a huge impact on our program in the time that they've been here. They are hard-working, committed, with great attitudes. The team came out to play and handled business. It was a great day all around."
Prior to the start of the match, the Javelinas honored their two graduating seniors, Manuelo Turolo and
Luna Jokanovic, both of whom picked up wins in doubles and singles today.
The day began with a sweep of the doubles point, as Turolo paired with junior
Guadalupe Tocci to win 6-4 on the No.1 court, while freshmen
Andrea Landaeta and
Annalena Noll won 6-1, and Jokanovic combined with junior
Kaitlin Blount to win 6-3.Â
Junior
Annika Andersson Gomez got the first singles win in straight sets, taking down her No.4 opponent 6-2, 6-3. Not long after, Jokanovic won 6-1, 6-4 on the No.2 court while Turolo won on the fifth court, 6-4, 6-4, clinching the TAMUK win. The three remaining matches all went to a tie-breaker, with Tocci coming all the way back on the No.1 court to grab a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) win. Noll lost in her tiebreaker, 0-6, 7-6, 0-1 (7-10), while Landaeta lost 4-6, 7-5, 0-1 (9-11).
The team will now head on the road for its final two matches of the season, with a match against St. Mary's this coming Friday, and a season finale against Western New Mexico on the following Friday.
